This won't be a very exciting post, but I just wanted to update anyone who is wondering why we have been MIA from blogworld these past few weeks!
After girls weekend in Phoenix, we left for 5 days in Boston for an orthodontic convention. A huge highlight was seeing the Beach Boys in concert and getting to stand 5 feet from their surprise guest, John Stamos (Uncle Jesse from Full House) himself!!! I'll share pics and videos from this evening later when I have a little more time, along with a couple of other noteworthy things that happened while we were there.
We returned to Wichita and were home for about 24 hours before we left again to house hunt for the weekend in Indianapolis. The night we arrived, Brian got really sick with swine flu-like symptoms. We put 450 miles on our car in 2 days - poor Brian was driving the city with a fever while I was in tears because of the incredible lack of suitable places for us to live. After visiting more than a dozen houses, we came away pretty frustrated and pleading with the Lord to provide. In the past week, we found a house online that seems decent - we won't be able to see it in person, but it's in a semi-safe neighborhood and looks fairly well-kept from the pictures. We've got an application in for it right now - we're just waiting to see if we're approved.
After a week of sickness and loads of antibiotics, Brian is finally starting to feel better. Of all weeks to be sick, this past one would not have been his choice. He and his dad decided several months ago to switch the entire operating system software at the office, and they have been working toward this relentlessly. This past week was the week that they had scheduled to train the staff on the new software and actually start using it with patients. So Brian had to go to work for at least 12 hours every day, despite his aching body and horrible cough.
We have to be out of our house in 10 days, so the packing has begun. Our house is full of boxes and my mind is full of decisions about what we'll need in Indy, what we should give away and what we should leave here in storage. We'll stay with my parents starting June 1 until we move to Indy around the 20th.
I am also ramping up for our 10 year high school reunion, which I'm planning with my friend Kristin. It's in less than a month, so the rsvps are starting to roll in and we're working on a video and all sorts of other things that would probably be really fun projects, were there not a million other things going on.
And lastly, I received a call a couple of days ago from
Penny's owners (the female we are planning to breed Stryder with in August). They just discovered that one of Penny's puppies has hip dysplasia, which is a genetic condition that cannot be taken lightly. Since the puppy has dysplasia, that means that either Penny or the father has it. If it is Penny, obviously we will not be able to breed Stryder with her. Her owners are getting her tested this week, so we should know soon one way or the other. This was particularly difficult news for me, as having a puppy this winter was going to be one of the bright spots about living in Indianapolis. Please pray with us that Penny will be healthy and free from dysplasia.
I'm not at all meaning to complain - some seasons of life are just more hectic than others, aren't they? We could use your prayers right now for sanity, efficiency, good health, a sense of humor and the ability to make quick decisions. We'll try to keep you posted!
